ARTISTIC & ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR
(This position replaced the Performance Art Curator position)

HOURS/SALARY: 25 hours per week, $26,500

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Artistic and Administrative Director shares the curatorial vision
with the Programming Committee and Board of Directors of the
organization and is responsible for all aspects of production and
day-to-day operations. The successful applicant must possess an
in-depth understanding of the Performance Art community - regionally,
nationally and internationally.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Curatorial Selection:
- Network with other curators - locally, nationally and
internationally;
- Develop vision and programming through research;
- Liaise with artists and writers;
- Work closely with guest curators and programming committee
Production:
- Secure performance locations;
- All technical aspects of production
Documentation and Outreach:
- Coordinate documentation of events;
- Collect CV and Artists' materials, maintain archives;
- Organize public outreach, lectures, Docudrama screenings;
- Oversee production of all publications
Promotion, Website and e-list:
- Design, write and distribute promotional material including press
releases;
- Maintain website - design and posting;
- Research, publish and maintain e-list
Administration and Financial Management:
- Accommodation and travel arrangements for visiting artists;
- Draft contracts for artists;
- Coordinate submissions from artists;
- Prepare budgets and financial records;
- Liaise with Accountants;
- Report to Board of Directors
Fundraising:
- Research and write all Grants and Final Reports;
- Liaise with granting officers;
- Research and lobby additional funding sources;
- Secure co-sponsorships
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Extensive knowledge of contemporary performance art practices, and
surrounding critical discourses;
- Understanding of Artist-Run Centres, Public, and Institutional
Galleries; and post-secondary art education institutions;
- Proven track record with project management, grant writing, budget
preparation and responsible financial management;
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to
prioritize work and manage several tasks simultaneously;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently and
collaboratively;
- Proficient computer skills;
- French speaking an asset.

3. JOB CALL: Special Projects Coordinator, Fado Performance Inc.

SPECIAL PROJECTS COORDINATOR
HOURS/SALARY:1-year part-time contract position $14,040 ($18/hr)
This salary level reflects an average 15-hour work week; however, the
actual weekly schedule of the position will be flexible, based on
project requirements. Position and salary level are contingent on
funding.

RATIONALE:
Fado has been operating since 1993, during which time the organization
has accumulated a substantial archive of video and photo materials.
This material documents a rich history of performance art activity that
remains largely unknown. In its current state (unedited original
footage in various different digital formats), Fado's archive remains
inaccessible. The organization would like to make this archive
available to a larger public, as well as to curators and scholars, by
creating edited packages of material for dissemination through various
electronic formats, including DVD and the web.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Special Projects Coordinator will be responsible for developing
and implementing a public access strategy for Fado's archive of
performance art documentation. This is conceived as a multi-year
project; the Special Projects Coordinator will design and implement the
first phase of the project. There is potential for continuation and/or
expansion of the position beyond the terms of the initial contract
depending on the Special Projects Coordinator's success in meeting
developmental and fundraising goals.

DUTIES:
The Special Projects Coordinator will work with Fado's Board of
Directors, Special Projects Committee, and Artistic & Administrative
Director to:
Project Development
- Hone and clarify the public access plan;
- Develop detailed schedules and benchmarks for implementation of the
plan;
- Develop a realistic budget for subsequent phases of the project;
- Identify potential funders and sponsors for various stages of the
project;
- Identify target materials and strategies for packaging/marketing
Project Implementation
- Negotiate contracts with artists regarding the use of documentation;
- Identify and secure dissemination partners;
- Design and produce a sample DVD and web "package" using material
from Fado's archives;
- Coordinate publicity, advertising and dissemination of the sample
package;
- Solicit potential funders/sponsors, including preparing grants and
proposals;
- Oversee administration and financial management of the first phase
of the project, including preparing interim and final reports;
- Provide advice on optimal documentation for current and future Fado
programming

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Working knowledge of contemporary performance art practices, and
surrounding critical discourses;
- Understanding of Artist-Run Centres, Public, and Institutional
Galleries; and post-secondary art education institutions;
- Familiarity with dissemination infrastructures for experimental and
educational digital media;
- Proven track record with project management, grant writing, budget
preparation and responsible financial management;
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to
prioritize work and manage several tasks simultaneously;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Digital media skills (video editing, DVD authoring, web design);
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently and
collaboratively.
