Executive Director

The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is seeking a
passionate, dynamic leader who is committed to the growth and development of
the independent filmmaking community on a local, national and international
level. The successful candidate should have a broad knowledge of the
Canadian independent film community and be dedicated to the work of
supporting LIFT's membership in the creation and proliferation of new film
work and in their exploration of innovative filmmaking techniques. Reporting
to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible in the
achievement of LIFT's mission and the overall administrative operation of
the organization. The LIFT Executive Director is the public face of the
organization, driving new partnerships and opportunities that will benefit
the membership, the organization, and the wider community of artists and
audiences.


Responsibilities:
Administers the day-to-day operations of the organization
Creates and develops grants to meet the appropriate deadlines
In consultation with the Board of Directors, ensures specific organizational
goals and outcomes are achieved, identifying resources needed to meet goals
Sets performance goals for staff practice; works with staff to facilitate
and support them in their goals
Participates in the creation of an organizational vision
Works in collaboration with staff, members and external groups to accomplish
objectives and to fulfill responsibilities
Builds strong working relationships with community partners and enlists
their support in creating new projects
Working in conjunction with the Personnel Committee, hires, supervises,
evaluates and releases staff and contractors
Ensures sound bookkeeping procedures
Provides the board with regular statements of revenues and expenditures
Drives new projects and executes ideas to realize LIFT's objectives


Qualifications:
Demonstrated success with Grant and/or proposal writing experience necessary
(writing samples will be requested on interview)
3 to 5 years experience in a managerial or executive role
Knowledge of the film industry and proven dedication to the arts in a
professional or voluntary capacity
Strong networking, negotiation, and organizational skills
Multiple-project oriented and capable of meeting tight timelines
Strong communication and presentation skills
Magazine publishing/editorial experience


Additional Information:
The Executive Director is the key external spokesperson on behalf of LIFT
and, as a result, will attend all LIFT related functions and events.
Flexibility in hours is required. Must be eligible to legally work in
Canada. Salary is commensurate with experience. Deadline for applications is

supporting the independent film community and celebrating the medium of
film. LIFT provides an enthusiastic and respectful environment within which
members can share their talents, knowledge, and resources in order to
creatively express through film. LIFT supports and encourages independent
filmmaking through the exchange of information and access to equipment and
facilities. In addition to production/post-production equipment and
facilities, LIFT supports independent filmmaking via workshops, production
grants, screenings, a bi-monthly magazine, e-correspondence, and an online
cast and crew database.
