The Galt Museum and Archives is one of Alberta's leading community
museums, with a strong local and regional presence, an extensive
collection and strong archival holdings. In the past two years the
museum has successfully completed a major expansion and associated
fundraising drive, together with the installation of a new permanent
exhibit. The Galt is governed by a board appointed by the City of
Lethbridge.

Lethbridge is a vibrant city boasting a population in excess of 78,000
residents and diverse cultural and recreational opportunities. It is a
beautifully clean city rich with fine restaurants and shopping and has
two innovative post secondary institutions - the University of
Lethbridge and Lethbridge Community College.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity overseeing all internal
activities and external relationships for the museum. Specific
responsibilities include developing and managing financial activities
through business planning and budgeting; maintaining and creating
opportunities for funding; nurturing and sustaining community relations;
developing and implementing a strategic vision for the museum to ensure
that it meets its mandate; developing operational policies and
procedures which bring "best practices" to the management of the
organization; providing a stimulating and interesting working
environment for staff; hiring, training and supervising employees; and
ensuring the quality of the public experience while broadening museum
offerings.

Those interested in this opportunity must have at minimum a Bachelors
Degree in a relevant discipline: Sociology, History, Commerce etc. A
minimum of five years supervisory experience in a museum, archives or
similar facility is also required. Candidates must have demonstrated
abilities in financial management, fundraising, strategic planning,
marketing, public / community relations and supervising staff and
volunteers. They should be comfortable giving public presentations and
should have a strong ability to make frequent unilateral decisions while
remaining sensitive to the needs of the Board of Directors and the
public.
