GIRAF4: The 4th Annual Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival
takes place this November 5-8, 2008 at Quickdraw Animation Society and the
Plaza Theatre in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. GIRAF celebrates the spirit of
independent and underground animation, showcasing animators from across
Canada and around the Globe. GIRAF is the only exclusively independent
animation festival in Canada, with a hands-on approach, focusing on process
and experimentation.

We are now looking for YOUR independent short animation submission for
competition in this year’s festival! We are also interested in project
proposals which bridge disciplines of animation with new forms of
contemporary art, including performance, installation and new media
projects...

The Resident Artist Program has been created to provide opportunities for a
blend of recent graduates of arts and design institutions, as well as
mid-career artists, to create, explore, learn and exchange ideas and
insights, within a multi-disciplinary environment.

We have eight professional studios in Wood, Glass, Sculpture, Flameworking,
Photography, Painting and Drawing, Ceramics, Textile and Fibre Arts.

Short and long term residencies are available.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Studio space is available in
2008-2009.

Inner City Ministry – Coffee Time Coordinator

The River Bend Presbytery Inner City Ministry (ICM) is a social justice
community ministry of the United Church of Canada. Due to a grant from the
Saskatoon Community Foundation, ICM will host a two hour Coffee Time on a
weekly basis beginning September 08.

The Coffee Time Coordinator will:· Develop volunteer roster of organizations
to host weekly two hour Coffee Times· Maintain communication among host
groups, ICM and community· Promote and publicize weekly Coffee Time·
Supervise set up and take down of Coffee times
The incumbent should have:Ø An attitude of hospitality, respect and
justice;Ø Good interpersonal communication skills;Ø Cross cultural/class and
gender sensitivity;Ø Organizational skills including planning, ability to
work independently and with time management skills;Ø Understanding of the
core communities;Ø Residency within the core neighbourhood.
Hours of Work – three hours per week, maximum 12 hours per month.
Honorarium $10 per hour, maximum $120 per month
Term: August 1st 2008 to June 1st 2009, with possibility of renewal.The
coordinator will be accountable to/supported by a two-person committee of
ICM and Rainbow Community Centre representatives.

Call for instructor

The Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative is currently seeking an independent
filmmaker to teach our basic filmmaking course, The 60 Second Cinema Course.
If you have experience teaching filmmaking, as a celluloid product, then we
would welcome you.

The 60 Second Cinema Course is a 13-week course, beginning in mid-September,
which takes absolute beginners through the wonderful process of filmmaking.
By the end of the course each of the participants should have a one-minute,
black and white, silent film. All films are made with the Filmpool’s
collection of equipment and are produced on 16mm. Participants will gain
insight and knowledge in:

o Cinematography
o Equipment Safety and Usage
o Film Organization and Structure (i.e. shot lists, storyboards, etc)
o Artistic Methodology
o Basic Editing and Foley

The successful candidate will have some experience teaching film or on a
film set, and must have experience loading and operating a Bolex. The
successful candidate will be required to develop a curriculum in accordance
with previous courses held at the Filmpool and the Filmpool’s goals as
articulated by the Executive Director. The curriculum should reflect the
content of the classes and a timeline for the completion of the course. The
successful candidate will have the following skills:

o Film pedagogy
o Camera operation and use
o Strong communication skills, both oral and written
o Strong organizational skills
o Experience making a film
o Flexible hours
o A strong interest in independent filmmaking

The candidate will also be required to organize and facilitate mentors for
the participants, this will be done in partnership with the staff of the
Filmpool.
