Call: Ars Electronica open call for CyberArts

Dear friends of Ars Electronica!

The 22nd Prix Ars Electronica - International
Competition for CyberArts is open for entries.

>From its very inception in 1987, the Prix Ars
>Electronica has been conceived as an open
>platform for various disciplines at the
>intersection of art, technology, science and
>society. More than 3,300 submissions in 2007
>have further enhanced the Prix Ars ElectronicaĆs
>reputation as an internationally representative
>competition honoring outstanding works in the
>cyberarts. The categories Digital Musics,
>Digital Communities and Hybrid Art are great
>indicators for this trend.
The aim of the competition is to continually keep
the Prix Ars Electronica updated in line with
leading-edge developments in the dynamic field of
cyberarts.
This year, six Golden Nicas, twelve Awards of
Distinction and approximately 70 Honorary
Mentions as well as a Media.Art.Research Award
are presented to participants. The 2008 winners
will receive a total of 115,000 euros in prize
money.

Call: Call for Papers - IEEE HCI2007

Call for Papers - IEEE HCI2007 (due in 2 weeks)

4th IEEE Human Computer Interaction 2007
http://www.liacs.nl/~hci2007/

October 20th, 2007, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
(in conjunction with ICCV2007)

Send questions/requests by email to hci2007@liacs.nl

DEADLINES

July 9, 2007: Submission of full paper
August 6, 2007: Notification of acceptance
August 15, 2007: Camera-ready full paper
October 20, 2007: Workshop

GOALS

Human computer interaction (HCI) is one of the foremost
challenges of our society. New paradigms for interacting
with computers are being developed which will define the
21st century and enable the world to communicate and interact
effortlessly and intuitively.

In order for HCI systems to interact seamlessly with people,
they will need to understand their environment through vision
and auditory input. Moreover, HCI systems should learn how
to adaptively and intelligently respond depending on the context.

The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers
whose work is related to human computer interaction.
We are soliciting original contributions which address
a wide range of theoretical and application issues in
human computer interaction including, but not limited to:

* New paradigms in HCI
* Affective detection and recognition
* Smart interfaces
* Human motion tracking
* Gesture recognition
* Multimedia data modeling and visualization
* Multimodal event detection and recognition
* Human motion and gesture recognition
* HCI issues in image/video retrieval
* Learning in HCI
* Input and interaction techniques
* Perceptual user interfaces
* Wearable and pervasive technologies in HCI
* Intelligent Virtual Environments

Authors should preferably use the paper submission web system to
submit full papers at

http://press.liacs.nl/hci2007/submit.html

(no longer than 10 pages in the Springer LNCS style in English).

All papers will be peer-reviewed. In the tradition of the
previous 3 meetings, these proceedings will also be
published in the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS).

Call: The Second IEEE International Workshop on Horizontal Interactive Human-Computer System (Tabletop2007) seeks papers

The Second IEEE International Workshop on Horizontal Interactive
Human-Computer System (Tabletop2007)

Newport, Rhode Island, USA, October 10-12, 2007.
Held in conjunction with ACM UIST 2007

http://www.ieeetabletop2007.org/

Supported by IEEE

The use of the tabletop as an input/output device is an exciting and
emerging research area. This cross-disciplinary domain brings together
experts in projector based display systems, augmented reality, user
interface technologies, multi-modal interaction, input and sensing
technologies, CSCW, and information visualization.

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together leading researchers in
the field so that they can present and exchange current results of
ongoing investigations.

We encourage researchers and developers to present in the following
areas as they relate to interactive tabletops:
* Applications
* Gesture-Based Interfaces
* Multi-Modal Interfaces
* Speech Interfaces
* Tangible Interfaces
* User Interface Technologies
* Computer Supported Collaboration Systems
* Middleware and Network Support
* Augmented Reality
* Social Protocols
* HapticRendering
* Information Visualization
* Horizontal Display Hardware
* Sensing and Input Technologies

Paper Submission:

We invite submissions of two kinds - regular research papers of up to 8
pages and short papers of up to 4 pages describing original research on
investigations into horizontal oriented user interface based (tabletop)
systems.

Each paper must be submitted as a single PDF file in IEEE Computer
Science Press format (described at
ftp://pubftp.computer.org/press/outgoing/proceedings/instruct.pdf).

Each paper will be peer reviewed by no less than three experts in the
field.
Accepted research papers will be included in the IEEE proceedings and
presented in the paper sessions.

Submission details will be available at:
http://www.ieeetabletop2007.org/
