Job: Paved Arts seeks an Artistic Director

PAVED Arts, an innovative and dynamic artist-run centre for photographic,
audio, video, electronic and digital art, seeks candidates for the position
of Artistic Director.
Deadline: October 1 at 5 pm.

PAVED Arts is a not-for-profit, charitable artist run centre for research,
production, presentation and dissemination of contemporary photographic,
audio, video, electronic and digital art. Our overall mandate is both to
present contemporary media and visual art with an emphasis on new media
practices, and to operate a production facility to support the creation of
media and new media artwork. Through our production and presentation
activities, PAVED Arts supports local, regional and national artists working
in the ‘paved’ arts, as well as regional audiences and local communities.

PAVED has purchased and is renovating a state-of-the-art gallery and
production facility, situated in the cutting edge cultural district of
Riversdale on 20th Street West in Saskatoon. The organization is looking for
an Artistic Director who can help with the renovations due to be completed
by March 2008 and to develop programming and provide leadership in the local
arts community to attract local, national and international attention.

Duties to include but not limited to:
• full responsibility for the direction, development and implementation of
the presentation program
• full responsibility for curatorial leadership and publication development
• full responsibility for exhibition installation
• work with the PAVED community to create new programming initiatives,
including off-site and time-based programming
• creation of work plans, artists contracts, schedules, budgets and
proposals
• lead volunteers and staff in the on-site management of program events
• create and disseminate communication plans, web site presentation, design
print materials and visual identity development
• liaise with partner organizations, participants and members
• assist with library, photography collection and archives
• research, write and coordinate government operating and project grants
with other staff members
• act as a spokesperson for the organization
• act as one of four directors of 20 Above Holdings, the organization that
owns and manages 424 20th Street West

The ideal candidate will have:
• an MA, MFA or equivalent experience in art history, visual culture,
curatorial studies, or fine arts
• a minimum of 2 years experience in a not-for-profit art gallery
• experience managing budgets, grant writing and fundraising
• an extensive knowledge of Canadian and international contemporary art
practices
• excellent interpersonal skills, strong computer design skills and an
ability to multi-task


6 month probationary period
