AKA Gallery is seeking a versatile and enthusiastic individual to take over the newly created position of Gallery + Communications Coordinator. The Gallery + Communications Coordinator will work with the Board of Directors and the Artistic Director to develop and implement AKA Gallery's programming and communications strategies.

AKA Gallery is an artist run centre that facilitates the production, presentation and interpretation of a diversity of contemporary art with an emphasis on innovative artistic practices. By adopting a responsive approach to programming and all related activities, AKA aims to be a catalyst for the development and sustainability of a lively and engaged community of artists and audiences.

Job Description
The Gallery + Communications Coordinator will have knowledge and experience in the coordination, preparation and installation of art exhibitions and in developing and implementing communication strategies for promoting AKA's exhibitions and related activities. The Gallery + Communications Coordinator will act within the mandate of AKA Gallery to present the organization to the public.

Responsibilities for the Gallery + Communications Coordinator include:

Communications:
· Provide the board with a communications workplan and targets based on the prioritized needs of the organization in accordance with the objectives of mandate
· Coordinate and implement annual communication strategies maintaining an effective and distinctive visual signature for AKA in all communications activities including the web site, newsletter, press releases, invites, didactic materials, membership materials, publications
· Coordinate the production of all AKA communications and marketing information.
· the professional presentation and delivery of all printed and digital materials produced by the organization
· Work with the Artistic Director in the artistic design, editing and production of promotional materials for the Gallery
· Coordinate the development and maintenance of web content and other electronic media
· Produce and maintain an inventory of visual images to promote the Gallery, its exhibitions and related programs.
· Increase AKA's contact with the community & media through public relations
· Maintain regular communication with AKA members.

Exhibition Coordination:
To assist with the coordination, planning and presentation of visual art exhibitions and public programming activities:
· Perform set up and take-down duties related to all exhibitions, including appropriate display and lighting equipment.
· Coordinate the delivery, storage and shipping of crates, packing cases and materials related to exhibitions.
· Maintain supplies of materials and tools required for installations.
· Maintain a clean and orderly environment in all work areas, ensuring that tools, materials and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
· Coordinate hospitality for openings, talks and other events.
· Maintain resource centre materials, including subscriptions to relevant periodicals, ensuring AKA archive and library materials are kept in good order and condition.
· Ensure slides, digital images, video documentation, catalogues, etc. are added to database and properly archived.
· Attend programming meetings.

Experience Required:
· Excellent command of the English language (written and oral).
· Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of contemporary art practices
· Excellent graphic design skills as applied to marketing and/or publishing work (Please include samples of work)
· Proficient with use of desktop publishing and digital image editing software
· Familiarity with web programming in HTML an asset
· Excellent organizational skills.
· Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

Remuneration
The Gallery + Communications Coordinated is a salaried position remunerated at $21,000.00 per annum based on a 25-hour work week for 11 months of the year. The gallery is closed during the month of July. Benefits include an extended health plan. The position will commence as soon as possible for a two year term.

packing and shipping of artworks. The Gallery Assistant will also provide
support for the organization's collection, resource centre and library.

Qualifications:
Interest in contemporary art, photography and/or media arts
Attention to detail
Self-motivated
Experience handling works of art
Basic installation skills (painting and patching walls, etc.)
Basic photography and/or videography skills would be an asset
Familiarity with library resources in the Fine Arts would be an asset

Requirements:
Was registered as a fulltime student during the preceding academic year
Intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic
year
Is a secondary or post secondary student.
Is between 15 and 30 years of age
Is a Canadian citizen.

Job: Studio XX seeks a General Director

GENERAL DIRECTOR

Studio XX, Montréal’s own new media and network arts centre for
women, is looking for a General Director. Studio XX is a feminist
centre for technological exploration, creation and critique that aims
to bring together the voices and creative actions developed by women
to challenge and expand the limits of cyberspace.

The person selected for the position will be responsible for the
overall administration, management and orientation of Studio XX. The
General Director oversees the financial, human and technological
resources of the Studio and ensures that all activities and events
undertaken by the organisation reflect its feminist mandate and
commitment to women’s creative approach to new technologies. The
General Director oversees the functioning of all aspects of studio
life including: website, artistic programming, workshops,
productions, and the HTMlles festival. She is responsible for overall
relations between the Studio’s employees and board members, as well
as with the community at large.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years of experience working
within Canadian artist-run centres or not-for-profit groups (or
equivalent experience). She has a passion for new technologies,
especially electronic and web-based art, and has some experience with
the new media arts scene in Canada and internationally. She has the
proven ability to write government and foundation grants and can work
responsibly within tight budgetary constraints. With a good working
knowledge of various office oriented computer programs, she is always
keen on learning new ways of working with technology. She excels in a
collaborative environment and her strengths include; leadership,
analytical skills, creativity and a strong sense of organization. She
is an able communicator, is bilingual and has excellent writing
skills in at least one of the two official languages. A degree in
Arts Adminsistration would be an asset.

This is a core staff position.
One-year renewable contract with a six (6) month probationary period.
35hr/week
Salary : $40,000 annual. including four weeks paid vacation.

Call: VideoPool is seeking submissions for a touring screening

Call for Submissions:
Video Pool is now accepting curatorial proposals for a touring screening

Deadline: October 1, 2007
Video Pool is accepting proposals for a 60 - 90 minute thematic package of
single channel videos. This opportunity is open to
established, emerging or first-time curators in Winnipeg and beyond. All
thematic approaches will be considered, however, special
consideration will be given to projects that present the work of Aboriginal
and culturally diverse artists.

The purpose of the package is to unify artworks with an engaging theme and
to provide theoretical context for Video Pool's media arts
holdings. The package is intended to promote independent media artists
distributed by Video Pool, with a focus on developing
international audiences.

The curator is responsible for selecting the works to be included in the
package, writing a 2000 word contextual essay, overseeing the
design of discursive and promotional materials, the creation of summary
reports and contacting host venues for the tour of the
package. The curator may also choose to travel with the package, dependent
on funding, in order to introduce the package.
The successful curator will work with Video Pool Distribution Department,
reporting on a monthly basis, to coordinate and execute
the tour.

Pending funding approval, the curator will receive a total of $3000 for
creating the package, submitting an essay and arranging the
tour. Video Pool will also support the curator's travel as required.
Proposals will be reviewed by a jury made up of Video Pool Staff,
Board and Producers Group Members.

DARE-DARE receives your submission accompanied by your research interests. DARE-DARE acepta su portafolio acompañado de su intención de proyecto. Esta intención pueden ser un proyecto de intervención en espacio público, de performancia, eventos u otros, sean estos de carácter puntual, de duración variable o repetida. El centro busca divulgar prácticas que se inserten directamente en la trama física y social de la ciudad, proyectos interdiciplinarios que impliquen una interacción con el público y que se inscriban en barrios, espacios públicos, zonas comerciales y residenciales, etc. DARE-DARE ocupa por el momento, un refugio móbil y opera sin espacio de galería. El comité de programación escogerá un cierto número de artistas los cuales serán invitados durante el otoño a proponer un proyecto más preciso. Así, una primera selección se hará a partir de los portafolios y de las intenciones de los artistas.

Su portafolio deberá incluír:
· Un texto que describa su intención y proyecto (max. 200 palabras)
· Una hoja de vida
· Diez diapositivas o diez imágenes en disco compacto (max 1 mg) numerizadas y acompañadas de una descripción

Le Studio XX recherche une technicienne en enregistrement audio et vidéo et une commis à la saisie de données pour Matricules, un projet proposant un registre imagé et documentaire de l'histoire du Studio XX, centre d'artiste féministe engagé dans l'exploration, la création et la critique en art technologique.

À ce jour, le catalogage et le prototype du site Web de la base de données sont achevés et nous complétons maintenant la numérisation des archives, la réalisation du site Web et la production du DVD promotionnel. Cette étape du projet rendra accessibles au public et aux artistes les documents d'archives relatant les activités du Studio XX depuis les dix dernières années et permettra de mettre en place une plate-forme pour la documentation et l'archivage des activités futures du Studio XX.


Description du poste :: Technicienne en enregistrement audio et vidéo

La personne qui occupe ce poste est responsable de la numérisation et la préparation des documents pour le site Web du Studio XX dans le cadre du projet Matricules. La personne idéale est à l'aise dans la manipulation des équipements audiovisuels et informatiques. Le matériel à numériser et/ou à préparer se trouve sur différents supports : cassettes audio, DAT, minidisques, cassettes VHS, cassettes Hi8, cassettes MiniDV, CD, DVD, photos numériques, documents imprimés, fichiers mp3. Chacun des documents doit être catalogué selon un protocole établi durant les précédentes phase du projet. La préparation peut inclure une part de montage vidéo.

Le contrat est d'une durée de 15 semaines à 35 heures par semaine et au taux horaire de 15$ de l'heure. L'horaire de travail peut être discuté. Les tâches affectées à cet emploi doivent être achevées en février 2008.


Description du poste :: Commis à la saisie de données

La personne qui occupe ce poste est responsable d'entrer les documents numérisés et catalogués dans la base de données. Le travail peut inclure le catalogage de documents selon un protocole établi lors des précédentes phases du projet Matricules.

Le contrat est d'une durée de 30 semaines à 15 heures par semaine et au taux horaire de 15$ de l'heure. L'horaire de travail peut être discuté. Les tâches affectées à cet emploi doivent être achevées en février 2008.

The Studio is looking for a technician in audio and video recording, as well as a Data Entry Clerks for Matricules, an archive project on the history of Studio XX a feminist art centre for technological exploration, creation, and critique.

To date, the catalogue and Web site database prototype are complete and we are now preparing to finish digitizing the archives, produce the website and a promotional DVD. This final stage of the project will allow public access to the activities of Studio XX over the past 10 years as well as create a platform for continued archiving of the Studio's future activities.


Job Description :: Audio and Video Technician

This person is responsible for the digitization and preparation of documents for the Matricule project on the Studio's website. The ideal candidate has experience using a variety of audiovisual equipment and has related computer expertise. The material/document that will be digitized/prepared is in different formats: audio cassettes, DAT, minidisk recordings, VHS, Hi8, MiniDV, CD, DVD, digital photos, print documents, mp3 files. Each document must be logged and catalogued based on the protocols established in the first phase of the project. The preparation of material may include some video editing.

The contract will last 15 weeks at 35 hours a week. The pay is $15/hour. The tasks of this contract must be finished by February 2008.

Job Description :: Data Entry Clerks

The person with this job is responsible for entering the digitized and catalogued documents and materials into the database based on a protocol established in the first phase of the Marticules project.

The contract is for 30 weeks at 15 hours a week. The pay is $15/hour. The contract must be completed by February 2008.

The Communications Director is responsible for representing the festival and the artists it presents in the broader community and to the general public. Duties include providing opportunities for collaboration and outreach, invigorating community participation and presence, generating promotional texts and informative articles for publication. As a public figure, the Communications Director is responsible for articulating the mandate, vision, and content of the festival programming. The position also requires a collaborative, professional, and timely relationship with festival and StudioXX team members. The ideal candidate for this position exhibits comfort and experience with public speaking, networking in the arts, and excellent critical as well as descriptive writing skills in both French and English.

The Communications Director will:
# Work well independently but also cooperatively with the HTMlles team members and sustain open communications with StudioXX staff.
# Provide appropriate text and images for festival designer, in order to best represent the artists and events on the website, in the festival catalogue, and in promotional materials.
# Responsible for strategy for distribution of promotional materials.
# Create and distribute informational bulletins that circulate to members and contributeto community calendars.
# Create and submit / circulate critical articles, previews, and reviews pertaining to HTMlles Festival programming.
# Work cooperatively with Press Relations manager to distribute appropriate information.
# Design and manage conferences, panel discussions and salons during festival.
# Act as the Host and Master of Ceremonies at #8 Festival events.
# Establish new relationships and collaborations, and sustain existing relationships, between HTMlles and the broader arts community.
# Sustain and create greater participation and visibility of HTMlles in the broader arts community.

Position Available: Membership Coordinator/Administrative Assistant
Video Pool is an artist-run centre and as such is committed to employing
artists in a
variety of positions throughout the organization. Video Pool aims to
represent and
reflect the diversity of its community in its staff. Applicants from

LOCATION: Video Pool Media Arts Centre, Winnipeg
This is a part-time position at 15 hours (10 hours accounting, 5 hours
administration)
per week.
Video Pool’s starting wage is $15/hour.
PURPOSE:
To maintain communication with members regarding their accounts, membership
status
and Video Pool news, procedures and events.
CONTEXT:
The Membership Coordinator is responsible for maintaining contact with Video
Pool’s
members regarding their membership status, accounts and Video Pool news,
events
and meetings and working with all of Video Pool’s departments to communicate
with
the members. The Membership Coordinator is also responsible for conveying
information about Video Pool’s policies, procedures and services to new and
returning members.

presentation as a cohesive programming season. The Programming Coordinator’s
expertise, experience and knowledge of contemporary Canadian media arts will
assist Video Pool in presenting diverse and provocative examples of media
arts
practice that will generate dialogue and stimulate the practice of local
artists.

Unique opportunity available at Urban Shaman: Contemporary Aboriginal Art


Urban Shaman: Contemporary Aboriginal Art (located in Winnipeg, MB) is
looking for an early?to mid career arts professional to mentor as Assistant
Director with the organization, leading
(after a year) to the full time, permanent position of Executive
Director.??The intent of this program is to provide experience and training
in cultural sector management?through an intensive hands-on mentorship for
an Assistant Director at Urban Shaman, thereby?facilitating long term
stability and growth for the organization and professional development
for?the participant (Assistant Director).??The Assistant Director will work
closely with the current Gallery Director in all facets of
gallery?administration, programming and governance.? This is not an entry
level position.? This is an?advanced mentorship intended for an Aboriginal
early career professional with a demonstrated?knowledge of Aboriginal
artistic practice and a strong desire to be an arts manager in a not
for?profit setting.??


Urban Shaman Gallery is an Aboriginal artist run centre dedicated to meeting
the needs of?artists by providing a vehicle for artistic expression in all
disciplines and at all levels by taking a?leadership role in the cultivation
of Indigenous art.?Urban Shaman is dedicated to the Aboriginal arts
community and communities at large.? Its?mandate is the promotion,
dissemination and expansion of discourse relating to contemporary?Aboriginal
art on a local, national and international level.??Urban Shaman holds an
important position as one of only three Aboriginal artist run centres in?the
country and a key voice in the discourse of contemporary Aboriginal art
regionally,?nationally and internationally. From its in-house and-off site
programming (12 exhibitions in?2006/07), to its cyber presence
(urbanshaman.org, stormspirits.ca, conundrum.ca), and its community based
initiatives, Urban Shaman seeks to represent the wide diversity of
Aboriginal art in all its?forms and manifestations. Its priorities
constitute programming artists whose work hinges on?experimentation in form
and content. This includes artists at all levels of professional practice?in
all mediums, whose work shows a high degree of professionalism, aesthetic

Call: Cube Gallery seeks 2007 submissions

Submission call out for Cube Gallery Fall 2007

The following group shows will make up the fall season at the Cube
Gallery in Ottawa. Shows will feature 2 - 7 wall-based artists and 1 -
2 sculptural artists for each show (any genre: representational or non,
figurative or photo-based). The wall based artists will have aprox.
30X12 ft. spaces to work with. The floor space for sculpture is aprox.
1600 sq ft. See the

Proposals for inclusion will preferably be in the form of links to html
sites. However, small .jpgs, CD's and slides will also be considered.
You are welcome to submit for more than one show. The dates are draft

Job: VACO hiring Visual Art Instructors

CALL FOR INSTRUCTORS

Spring/Summer 2007 and Fall 2007/Winter 2008

Visual Arts Centre, Orleans (VACO) is currently seeking art
instructors. VACO has a nine year history of offering visual art
classes to the east-end community. Currently we are looking to engage
the greater segment of the community and enhance the creative
experience in the city. VACO is looking for course ideas that will
entice the absolute beginner as well as the advanced student. This is
a great opportunity as we are developing programming for VACO to take
its place in the new Art Centre facilities planned for the heart of
Orleans.

Looking for instructors with previous teaching experience.
Bilingualism an asset.

Specialities we are currently seeking

* Adult Drawing various skill levels
* Adult Painting various skill levels including all painting media
* Monoprinting
* Silkscreening
* Instructors with early childhood development and visual arts for
our classes called ‘Toddler and Me’
* Art for the those with no previous experience (looking for those
instructors that can provide a supportive and nurturing environment)
* Bookbinding
* Theme-based workshops
* Courses that tap into ideas about developing creativity
* Art and wellness
