Purpose:
Common Weal Community Arts is a provincial arts organization located in Saskatchewan that links professional artists with communities to promote social justice and cultural identity through collaborative art projects and research. The position of Executive Director contributes by leading the day-to-day operations of Common Weal and working in collaboration with the board of directors, ensuring that the mandate and values of the organization are upheld.

Scope:
Reporting to the board of directors, this position provides leadership in a variety of areas including: strategic planning, human resources development, management and support, board support, policy development, fund development and financial management, partnership development and internal/external communications.

Education and Experience:

-Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree or a relevant area and a minimum of 3 years of related arts management experience;
-Demonstrated leadership and management skills in the not-for profit sector;
-Demonstrated experience and knowledge of community development processes and community-engaged art practices
-Demonstrated experience developing funding proposals, conducting evaluation and establishing organizational benchmarks;
-Bookkeeping and accounting knowledge;
-General understanding of Macintosh Environment and Office Software;

Salary Range
$35 000.00 - $40 000.00

Job: Common Weal seeks a Project Assistant

Common Weal Community Arts Inc. is seeking an energetic, self-motivated and experienced individual for the contract position of Project Assistant. Working under the supervision of the Southern Artistic Coordinator in our Regina office, the successful candidate will assist in the successful delivery of Common Weal projects and events. Duties will include: supporting project artists, communications, and ongoing project and event support.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organizational and research skills, the ability to work both independently and cooperatively with a diverse group of people and to be culturally sensitive. A valid drivers license is necessary. Previous experience in the arts and having own vehicle would be assets.

Salary: 20 hrs a week at $13/hr
Duration: 16 weeks

Call: Expressions of Interest from Visual Artists

Call for Expressions of Interest from Visual Artists

The Saskatchewan Arts Board and Canadian Western Agribition are looking for visual artists who are interested in working on an education project on the Agribition grounds in Regina during the week of November 19 to 23, 2007.

The project will be similar to a school residency. The contracted artist(s) will work with Grade 4 to 8 students to create a sculpture or mural on-site using recyclable materials. The artist(s) will design a project suitable for student participation and Agribition will provide the required materials.

Artists should be able to appreciate a high-energy environment, as students will be coming and going from the site during the project hours of 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. daily. The project details are not yet finalized, but interested artists should contact Dianne Warren by October 19 to express their interest.

The Arts Board has an ongoing partnership with Agribition and is pleased to assist them in developing this project.

SOUTHERN ARTISTIC COORDINATOR

PURPOSE

Common Weal Community Arts Inc. is a provincial arts organization that links professional artists with communities to promote social justice and cultural identity through collaboration and creative expression. The position of Southern Artistic Coordinator is to inspire and maintain the artistic and community vision of Common Weal Community Arts Inc. and to facilitate the participation of communities in the creation of community engaged art projects.

SCOPE

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position has a collaborative and leadership role in a variety of areas including the development of community engaged art projects, partnership development, outcome based evaluation and public presentation of projects in the Southern region of the province. The Northern and Southern Artistic coordinators work as a team to develop, facility and evaluate artistic programming.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A) Program Coordination & Development

• Community outreach and participation with human service organizations and arts organizations, partnership development, and ongoing community relations.
• Community consultation, assessment and planning in development of community- engaged arts projects in the southern part of the province.
• Work collaboratively with the Artistic team and other Common Weal staff in project planning and project timelines.
• Recommend Project Managers and Artists to assist in the delivery of community-engaged arts projects
• Provide support to and work directly with Project Managers, Artists and Participants to deliver and/ or assist in project development and delivery.
• Establish outcome evaluation frameworks for Common Weal projects
• Oversee and facilitate the collection of data for the purposes of program outcome evaluation from Community Partners, Project Managers, Artists, and Participants on a regular schedule

B) Administration/ Operations

• Provide support to the Executive Director and project/ regional advisory committees on an ongoing basis and to the Board of Directors when required
• Develop funding applications for projects and/ or provide artistic vision and expertise to the Executive Director for the purposes of funding applications, project budgets, and core budget planning
• Participate and help facilitate the long term planning process for the organization
• Provide written quarterly reports to the Executive Director, in consultation with project managers, on all project initiatives and outreach

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Knowledge of community development process and community engaged art practice(s)
• Previous experience developing funding proposals, project management, and outcome based evaluation
• Excellent organizational, group facilitation, and inter-personal skills
• Demonstrated sensitivity and interest to work with individuals/ groups from diverse social, economic, political, and cultural backgrounds
• Sufficient knowledge of project budgeting and cost projection
• General understanding of Macintosh Environment and Office Software

Experience and Training Required

• A Bachelor of Arts or Fine Arts and/ or at least 3 years of community and professional experience
• Demonstrated ability to work with others in a variety of artistic disciplines

Probation and Review

This position will have her/his performance annually reviewed by the Executive Director through a process of peer evaluation and self-evaluation. After a compulsory six-month probationary period, salary increments will be aligned with the annual budget cycle and incremental pay scales and performance assessments.

Salary Range

• $26,000 to $34,000.
• Benefits package provided after the compulsory probation period.

Hours of Work

• This is a full time position, with a base of 3 weeks of paid vacation per year worked.

Call: Saskatchewan Filmpool seeks submissions for 50/104 Festival

Festival 50 / 104

The Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative is currently accepting submissions for
their film and video festival, Festival 50 / 104. This festival is designed
to support shorts made by independent Canadian filmmakers. Criteria for
submissions are:

1. the film or video must be an independent production,
2. it must be a short film or video (under 30 mins),
3. it must be Canadian made.

Films and videos can be of any genre and all genres are encouraged to apply.
Deadline for submissions is August 10th, 2007 at 5:00 pm. Submissions in
both official languages are accepted. A $15 submission fee will be required
for each video or film. Submissions for consideration must be made in VHS or
DVD, screening copy to be negotiated.

Festival 50 / 104 will be held on September 14, 15 and 16 and will feature
filmmakers Jayce Salloum, Zarqa Nawaz and Colleen Murphy.

The Festival and the Filmpool strongly support artist and screening fees for
all films, therefore all films that are screened at the festival will

Themes: Intervention/ Urbanism/ Public Spaces and Private Spaces/ Garage- Related Activities

Lane Level Projects is seeking artists to create installation and/or performance works for garages to be exhibited in a one day art event in Regina, SK on September 8th, 2007.

The Garage Show is Lane Level Project's first exhibition. Lane Level Projects is a Regina based artists’ collective. Our mandate is to introduce the work of local contemporary installation, multimedia and performance artists into private and semi-private venues: homes, garages, yards and gardens. Our inaugural project, The Garage Show, will culminate in a one-day exhibition/performance event in the garages and alleys of Regina’s Cathedral Area. Visual and performance artists will create site-specific installations and/or performances in response to the private spaces of people’s garages and the public spaces of the alleys that feed into them.

An artists fee will be paid to the artists that are selected.

Proposals / Submissions should include:
- CV/resume and a brief bio including your discipline(s) and your roles within these.
- A one page project description which outlines the underlying ideas, processes involved, and material result of the proposed work or action, including timeline and workplan. (This will help us facilitate the right space for you.)

Call: Public Art Project in Regina seeks expressions of interest

Expressions of Interest

Immigrant Recognition Sculpture: A Public Art Project

The City of Regina is seeking artistic and/or design services for the creation, design and installation of a unique sculpture to celebrate the contribution of immigrants to Regina. The sculpture will incorporate a naming feature to display donor and/or immigrant names.

The selected artist/design team will be responsible for the design, production, transportation and installation of the work on the site chosen and will work with a City of Regina multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriate integration of the work into its environment. The work will be unveiled in the spring of 2008.

The budget for the project is set at $250,000 and must include all costs, fees, materials honorariums and taxes.

Expressions of interests from artists/design teams are being accepted until August 1, 2007. We are looking for artists with a body of sculptural work and experience capable of producing a significant civic sculpture. Submissions should include an artist biography indicating relevant experiences and personnel, samples of previous work and reference letters. Finalists will be commissioned to provide detailed proposals.

We are pleased to announce a SSHRC-funded Summer Institute and Conference, to be held from June 9-22, 2007 at the University of Regina. Hosted by Dr. Pauline Minevich (Department of Music) and Prof. Charles Fox (Department of Media Production & Studies), these creative and theoretical forums will provide a unique opportunity for students, artists, musicians, composers, and researchers to participate in an intensive programme devoted to soundscape art forms.

The formal and informal venues of ais2 will take place in an atmosphere of collegiality and discourse between artists and academics. Theorists will directly experience creative practices and artists will have an opportunity to display and validate their current developments amongst peers.


The Creative Forum

Building on the success of the Summer Institute held at the University of Regina in July 2004, The Art of Immersive Soundscapes 2 will attract Canada's leading artists and academics to contemplate, compose and create immersive soundscapes. The opportunity for presentation of complex three dimensional soundscapes will be given the best of possible venues, through high quality presentation facilities, engaged inquiry and enthusiastic, receptive audiences: artwork that is on the leading edge of technology and artistic expression.


The Creative Forum's program is diverse, including:

Master Classes For the advanced student or practitioner: be exposed to new methods and theories.
Audio Basics For those new to audio art: become grounded in audio and composition practices through classes presented by leading artists.
Collaborative exploration State-of-the art multichannel audio studio facilities will enable a creative setting for the creation and presentation of new, challenging methods, ideas and artworks.
Presentations Nightly artist talks and presentations of audio compositions, plus an off-site visit to a special prairie setting.

The nine Artists-in-Residence for ais2 are among Canada's most innovative composers, acoustic designers and audio artists:

Darren Copeland (Toronto): Independent audio artist and Director of New Adventures in Sound Art, Toronto.
Dr. Christos Hatzis (University of Toronto): Distinguished multi-award-winning composer, whose music utilizes multimedia and sound art.
Stephen Heimbecker (Montreal): independent audio artist, with exhibited installations in Europe and North America.
Wade McGregor (North Vancouver): Senior consultant, MC Squared Systems Design Group, specializing in acoustic design; has published over 250 technical papers, awarded patent for design of modular microphone (with Charles Fox).
Ellen Moffat (Saskatoon): Independent audio artist, with sound installation presentations across Canada.
Gordon Monahan (Berlin): Independent audio artist, with exhibitions and performances across Europe and North America.
Barry Truax (Simon Fraser University): Internationally celebrated pioneer and teacher in audio art, technology, and electroacoustic composition.
Dr. Ellen Waterman (University of Guelph): Creative sound artist, music performer and improviser.
Hildegard Westerkamp (Vancouver), Independent audio artist, former faculty member at Simon Fraser University, with exhibitions world-wide.


The Conference

Keynote speakers will be the distinguished Canadian audio artists and composers Dr. Christos Hatzis (University of Toronto) and Prof. Barry Truax (Simon Fraser University).

Call for Papers
Proposals are invited for papers, performances, and presentations that address aspects of relationships between different kinds of soundscapes, musics, and concepts of identity. Topics may encompass identity in personal, national, political contexts; musics ranging from traditional acoustic to electronic and computer-generated; and varieties of soundscapes, from environmental to electronic. Multi-media presentations are welcome. Papers/presentations are limited to 20 minutes in length. We are currently pursuing opportunities for publication of the proceedings.

Abstracts should be 250-500 words long and can be submitted by e-mail, by April 15, 2007, to the address listed below. The abstract should be included in the body of the e-mail, as should the author's name, telephone number, e-mail address, and institutional affiliation. Identifying information will be removed before evaluation by the program committee. E-mail notifications will be sent by May 1, 2007.

Call: Soil Digital Media Suite seeking Web Cinema production applicants

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Web Cinema

The Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative and Soil Digital Media Suite
are currently accepting applications for Web Cinema. Web Cinema is a
co-production that seeks to explore the connection between the Web
and film as artistic mediums.

Submissions will be assessed on the artistic merit of the project,
the capacity of the independent filmmaker / artist to complete the
project and the conceptual relevance of the work proposed. All
projects must be created with the Web as a screening venue in mind.
Works should be between 4 and 15 minutes in length.

Proposals must be for new work not previously presented to an
audience and will be selected by a jury comprised of representatives
from the Saskatchewan Filmpool Co-operative and Soil. Production
resources will be available from both the Filmpool and Soil. Projects
must be ready to launch in October 2007 and be archived on the Soil
Web gallery site at http://www.soilmedia.org. Artists retain all
copyrights to their projects which can be linked or stored on Soil's
server. Funding is to be applied to costs for domain names, technical
specialists, membership fees.

Five $1,000.00 production honorariums will be awarded to five
successful applicants who must be independent artists / filmmakers
and who will retain all copyrights to their projects.

Please submit a brief (one-page) synopsis and / or treatment of your
project, a C.V. and 1 example of past work by March 30, 5:00 pm to
the Saskatchewan Filmpool Co-operative, 301-1822 Scarth Street,
