Trampoline celebrates over 10 years in new media art...

THE THEME: THE SURVEILLANCE CITY

If we are not to be played and lost like Pawns scrabbling on the surface of
a chessboard we need to understand the rules of the game we are engaged in.

As developers buy up our city centres for regeneration into 'desirable
properties for the market', a similar appropriation is taking place within
the spectrum that lies above. The air we breathe is itself becoming digital
real estate, an intangible landscape carried on radio waves, filling the
voids of our cities like Dark Matter.

The new city is coming – a city whose spaces are connected by hidden
electronic passages and data crawl-throughs, spaces where our movements are
traceable, recordable and identifiable by the litter of data we carelessly
drop and the Web 2.0 we unwittingly spin in the chatter of our networks.

Trampoline celebrates over 10 years in new media art in November with a look
at how artists are teaching themselves the game plan for this wireless,
super conductive urban landscape that is emerging around us.

Trampoline is calling for submissions in 2 areas of interest:

1. SURVEILLANCE CITY
>From video, animation, installation, sculpture, performance, live music, and
web streaming Trampoline welcomes all forms of artistic expression with a
critique of digital culture.

2. NEW MEDIA PERFORMANCE
In addition to this, Trampoline will curate a programme of new media
performance celebrating the diversity of 10 years in this area. Of
particular interest are performance video, live streaming, audio tours and
participatory, mobile projects.

For further details on how to submit work, please go to

Call: Public Art Project in Regina seeks expressions of interest

Expressions of Interest

Immigrant Recognition Sculpture: A Public Art Project

The City of Regina is seeking artistic and/or design services for the creation, design and installation of a unique sculpture to celebrate the contribution of immigrants to Regina. The sculpture will incorporate a naming feature to display donor and/or immigrant names.

The selected artist/design team will be responsible for the design, production, transportation and installation of the work on the site chosen and will work with a City of Regina multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriate integration of the work into its environment. The work will be unveiled in the spring of 2008.

The budget for the project is set at $250,000 and must include all costs, fees, materials honorariums and taxes.

Expressions of interests from artists/design teams are being accepted until August 1, 2007. We are looking for artists with a body of sculptural work and experience capable of producing a significant civic sculpture. Submissions should include an artist biography indicating relevant experiences and personnel, samples of previous work and reference letters. Finalists will be commissioned to provide detailed proposals.

A project overview is available at www.regina.ca . For more information, contact the City of Regina Arts, Culture & Heritage Program Specialist at clavoie@regina.ca or phone (306) 777-7603.

Call: Biore offeres $20 000 to emerging female artist

From Blog "Art Fag City"

http://www.artfagcity.com/2007/03/30/biore-announces-20000-grant-to-go-to-top-female-emerging-artist/

"I suppose you’ll just have to get past the fact that Biore titles
their new grant program for women artists the “Uncover Discover
Program“, as they’re offering $20,000 and a trip to New York to the
winners in each category film, fashion, music, and art. According to
the entrance requirements, artists can not be represented by a major
gallery in a top five U.S. market, (so for example, those who show in
New York, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco and LA at a major gallery do
not qualify,) and must make wall mountable work in the mediums of
photography, painting or mixed-media. This unfortunately eliminates
sculptors and most new media artists, a common problem for those
working in the field. For the rest of you wishing to apply, I
encourage it, but note two potential caveats. One, I spoke to their
publicist and asked them who was on their review panel, and was told
it wouldn’t be confirmed until after the submissions had been
received. This doesn’t make much sense to me since most artists want
to know who will be looking at their work prior to applying. It
indicates the level of seriousness of the competition, and helps
applicants put together submissions. Two, upon entering, artists must
agree to give Biore the right to cut, edit, and reformat their work.
I suspect this clause was meant to be applied to those entering the
film category, but I can’t help but be wary of anyone who wants to
edit a painting for the purposes of presentation.

With that said, the competition looks like a great opportunity for
emerging female artists. $20,000 can really make a lot of difference,
particularly early on in a career, so my advice is to apply."
