Call: Madrid Abierto 2009-2010 seeks artists for Public Art debates

MADRID ABIERTO

http://www.madridabierto.com/en

Madrid Abierto 2009-2010 :: Call for Artists of all Nationalities :: Deadline: September 10, 2008.

The Cultural Association, MADRID ABIERTO, announces the start of the presentation of projects period for the 6th edition of its international public art programme which will be held in 2009 and 2010. The programme will hold debate sessions on public art and will generate a series of interventions of an ephemeral or temporary nature in the centre of Madrid, whose authors will mainly be selected through this open call for presentations. A specific call for presentations of sonorous work, which includes collaboration in the audiovisual TV Interventions project, is also announced. PARTICIPATION BASES:

1. Reflecting from the stance of contemporary art practice on cultural, social and political environment, the purpose of this call for applications is to select artists to produce interventions of a temporary or ephemeral nature aimed at contributing to activate the public space. The initiative includes two specific projects for the Casa de América and Círculo de Bellas Artes buildings, which will be incorporated into Madrid Abierto with other invited projects and selected sonorous and audiovisual works.

This edition of Madrid Abierto will be dedicated to emerging practices that critically engage with the urban environment. Madrid Abierto 2009-2010 aim to include a wide variety of practitioners and art forms that establish their strengths in an expanded role, and that work in the social realm of art practice and audience participation. The idea is to produce and show work that connect various disciplines and that opens up for collaborations between, for example, artists, architects, designers, computer programmers, social scientists and urban planners.

For cities to thrive, to be communicative and alive, and to function as catalysers of public life, it is necessary to stimulate civic participation and community involvement. Given the current framework, where society often fail to negotiate some of the most immediate challenges, how can pooling resources such as the ones found in interdisciplinary groups, develop alternative work methods? How can inertia and nostalgia be substituted by visionary and inspiring tools that act as catalysts for change?

Call: Public art wanted for CAFKA.09: Veracity

CAFKA.09: Veracity

http://www.contemporaryartforum.ca/

In this uncertain environment, could it be that our ability to evaluate truth is compromised? How will history be recorded and communicated to future generations? What if the asterisks were missing?

Artistic practice, from realism to minimalism, has an inherently illusory nature; artists frequently use their craft to expose untruths, and just as frequently perpetrate them. For Veracity, CAFKA asks artists to consider the veracity of truth, whether that be through the handling of materials, thematic or conceptual concerns of their practice. Artists may wish to consider the scientific, artistic, political, religious, historical, or experimental implications of an uncertain truth through the veracity of materials and ideas.

We invite proposals for new or existing works that engage with the theme and the public spaces in and around Kitchener City Hall. Works in all media will be considered including sculpture, performance, video, audio, installation, photography, painting, drawing and digital media. Video artists are invited to submit single channel work relating to the theme to be considered for inclusion in a video compilation which will be screened during the Forum.

CAFKA takes art out of the confines of the gallery walls and places it in a civic space to engage and confront the broader public. We offer the public an opportunity to engage with internationally relevant, ambitious, contemporary art. Artists have the opportunity to create work that needn’t adhere to the rules of presenting art within the gallery/museum system.

The exhibition will take place in and around Kitchener City Hall in September, 2009. Artist Fees paid for Visual and Media Art Projects: CAD $2,000, which is intended to cover all aspects of production & installation including materials and transportation. Video and one-time Performance fees paid in accordance with CARFAC (Canadian Artists’ Representation/le Front des Artistes Canadiens).

All applications must be received by 5:00 pm, July 1, 2008.

Trampoline celebrates over 10 years in new media art...

THE THEME: THE SURVEILLANCE CITY

If we are not to be played and lost like Pawns scrabbling on the surface of
a chessboard we need to understand the rules of the game we are engaged in.

As developers buy up our city centres for regeneration into 'desirable
properties for the market', a similar appropriation is taking place within
the spectrum that lies above. The air we breathe is itself becoming digital
real estate, an intangible landscape carried on radio waves, filling the
voids of our cities like Dark Matter.

The new city is coming – a city whose spaces are connected by hidden
electronic passages and data crawl-throughs, spaces where our movements are
traceable, recordable and identifiable by the litter of data we carelessly
drop and the Web 2.0 we unwittingly spin in the chatter of our networks.

Trampoline celebrates over 10 years in new media art in November with a look
at how artists are teaching themselves the game plan for this wireless,
super conductive urban landscape that is emerging around us.

Trampoline is calling for submissions in 2 areas of interest:

1. SURVEILLANCE CITY
>From video, animation, installation, sculpture, performance, live music, and
web streaming Trampoline welcomes all forms of artistic expression with a
critique of digital culture.

2. NEW MEDIA PERFORMANCE
In addition to this, Trampoline will curate a programme of new media
performance celebrating the diversity of 10 years in this area. Of
particular interest are performance video, live streaming, audio tours and
participatory, mobile projects.

For further details on how to submit work, please go to

Callout: Video Pool Thematic Call for Submissions – Off the Grid: The Creative Misuse of Technology

Video Pool Media Arts Centre
Call for Submissions – 2007/08 Programming
Theme – Off the Grid: The Creative Misuse of Technology

Deadline: March 23, 2007

Contemporary culture is permeated by a fascination with media and
trends in consumer electronics. Media artists often follow their own
fascination with technology and its creative potential into uncharted
territory. In an effort to free themselves from the technical and
aesthetic restraints of conventional approaches, artists create new
processes, strategies and systems for dealing with media. Technology
is creatively misused and repurposed; found or antiquated media is
reused and reinterpreted; and traditional approaches to media are
hacked, bent and reprogrammed to create unique artistic results.

Video Pool is inviting submissions on the theme Off the Grid: The
Creative Misuse of Technology for the 2007/08 programming season.

Video Pool invites submissions of:

New Media

Experimental Electronics

Installation (with media components)

Audio Art

Curatorial packages (with media components)

Video Pool’s 2007/08 programming season will include three programs
specifically focused on new media performance and single channel film
and video in the following three categories:

1. Machinima
Film and video made using avatars and/or video game environments.

2. Performance Lecture
Performances that bend the usual accoutrements of academic lectures –
slide shows, power point presentations, video clips, etc., – to
critically reflect on the form of the lecture and props used to support
intellectual authority.

3. Camera-free film and video
Submissions may explore the range of camera-free image manipulation –
from well established film techniques such as hand processing and
optical printing to computer-based image manipulation in programs such
as After Effects.

Submission Requirements
Due to funding requirements, primary consideration will be given to
Canadian citizens.

All submissions must include:

1. C.V. or artist resumé including current contact information
(address, telephone # and e-mail) for the artist/curator.

2. A short description of the project or video(s) including an outline
of the project’s curatorial and/or critical objectives.

3. The project and/or video title(s).

4. Artist’s name(s).

5. Project/video year(s) of completion and city(s) of origin.

6. Project’s exhibition history and any other contexts in which the
work will be presented in the coming year.

7. A statement indicating if the artist(s)/curator(s) plan to be in
attendance with the work and if so in what capacity they would expect
to participate in the screening/exhibition.

accept responsibility for the loss of or damage to, support material.
- still images should be submitted on CD.
