Call: A DIAMOND IN THE MUD seeks artists for "A Miniature Audio Exhibition of Stereophonic Soundscape & Horspiel Works"

A DIAMOND IN THE MUD

A Miniature Audio Exhibition of Stereophonic Soundscape & Horspiel Works

Call For SHORT STEREOPHONIC SOUNDSCAPE & HOERSPIEL WORKS: A DIAMOND IN THE MUD
Deadline: September 15, 2008

PROJECT CONCEPT: It is an Asian concept rooted in Buddhism that self-cultivation can be developed at home as a householder and is not merely confined to a temple or monastery. Buddhist believe that enlightened beings are those who "grew" out of the "mud" of the material world. So, like the lotus flower, which penetrates through sullied mud and water, but emerges unspoiled, enlightened beings are beautiful and pure even though they grow up in the material world. The phrase "a diamond in the mud" is an analogy for this and in keeping with it the Digital Art Weeks would like to issue this call to artists and to submit pre recorded works (Soundscape, Horspiel, Poetry) in regard to the beautiful and the sullied. The works will be chosen on their ability to transcend the listeners into a "moment of tranquilly" and out of the confines of the everyday, or as expressed in the Diamond Sutra: "Dwell upon nothing and produce the pure mind."

PLAYBACK SYSTEM: Constructed as a dock for Apple's famed iPod, the iCarta stereophonic audio playback system will be used to play back all of the selected works. The system not only offers an interesting solution for public pod-casting, but it also acts uniquely as a bathroom dispenser for the indispensable: Le papier toilette. - Art Clay, DAW, Artistic Director (c) 2008

DEADLINE: Monday, 15th September 2008. Notification of acceptance of proposals will be sent out on or before Monday, 22nd September 2008.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: Mon 12th Nov 07

EVENT TO BE HELD ON: Thur 29th Nov 07

Trampoline celebrates over 10 years in new media art...

THE THEME: THE SURVEILLANCE CITY

If we are not to be played and lost like Pawns scrabbling on the surface of
a chessboard we need to understand the rules of the game we are engaged in.

As developers buy up our city centres for regeneration into 'desirable
properties for the market', a similar appropriation is taking place within
the spectrum that lies above. The air we breathe is itself becoming digital
real estate, an intangible landscape carried on radio waves, filling the
voids of our cities like Dark Matter.

The new city is coming – a city whose spaces are connected by hidden
electronic passages and data crawl-throughs, spaces where our movements are
traceable, recordable and identifiable by the litter of data we carelessly
drop and the Web 2.0 we unwittingly spin in the chatter of our networks.

Trampoline celebrates over 10 years in new media art in November with a look
at how artists are teaching themselves the game plan for this wireless,
super conductive urban landscape that is emerging around us.

Trampoline is calling for submissions in 2 areas of interest:

1. SURVEILLANCE CITY
>From video, animation, installation, sculpture, performance, live music, and
web streaming Trampoline welcomes all forms of artistic expression with a
critique of digital culture.

2. NEW MEDIA PERFORMANCE
In addition to this, Trampoline will curate a programme of new media
performance celebrating the diversity of 10 years in this area. Of
particular interest are performance video, live streaming, audio tours and
participatory, mobile projects.

For further details on how to submit work, please go to

is looking for experimental sonic artworks

Pantheon Cultural Association Nicosia/Cyprus
http://www.pantheonxperimental.org

Pantheon Cultural Association invites you to Xperimental | Sonic Arts, an experimental music event of improvisation and sound-sculpture

Within the Xperimental program, Pantheon Cultural Association has begun a new effort of experimental creativity through the sonic arts. The aim of this effort is to support the young artists (composers, musicians) in the production but also promotion of their work.

While often supporting experimental artists in Cyprus we observed a developing interest for non-commercial, experimental music scene and considered it necessary to create a foundation for those interested (both artists and publics) under the name Xperimental | Sonic Arts.

While intending to present these new sounds to the public a team of experimental musicians are organized, playing together and introducing themselves to each other’s art. The event Xperimental | Sonic Arts aims to present the experimental music scene live. The artists present their music and the music scene they are involved in. These individuals have been involved with and worked in the music sector since their early youth, emphasizing their need for experimentation in their personal creations.

Considering the creation of a breeding ground for experimental musicians necessary, the Pantheon Cultural Association responded with ‘Sonic Arts’ consisting in the release of CDs compiling the work of musicians, supported by improvisational concerts. The launching of the collection is hosted on one of the grounds of the Pantheon Cultural Association (TRITOS). The CDs compiled by the event are then distributed and followed by an improvisational jam on the premises. The Association intends to promote the CD in Cyprus as well as in other European countries as a record of the local music scene.

Through its cooperation with the networkProject Studio, the Association aims to support the artists taking part in ‘Sonic Arts’, creating the best possible conditions for the live performances as well as providing, to those musicians without the necessary tools, an affordable means for them to record their music in the best possible environment.

Musicians taking part in the project are expected to support their entry with a live performance of some sort at the event, held at the TRITOS venue.
